This week I have begun to add back in some of the foods that I was not able to eat on Phase 1. I am doing this S-L-O-W-L-Y, because I don't want to add too much back in all at once and stall my weight-loss.
For the most part, I have been adding in fruit, at least one a day, sometimes 2.
And it's been glorious!
I used to think strawberries weren't sweet. I wouldn't eat them unless they had sugar on them. I ate one the other night and my eyes just closed from the pure pleasure of it. Seriously, that strawberry was so sweet! How could I have been so wrong about them all this time?
And yesterday, I ate a banana. Now I have always thought bananas were pretty sweet, but eating one yesterday was like biting into pure sugar cane. It tasted so good!
It's amazing to me to realize that I had tricked my taste buds into thinking they needed artificial sweetness to satisfy. But after 3 weeks of very little added sugar, fruit "suddenly" tastes amazingly sweet.
It's nice to have something that really feels like a dessert, and yet it's still good for me. Between fruit and sugar-free fudge pops, my sweet tooth hasn't been feeling denied hardly at all!
It's kinda like having your cake and eating it too...
except the cake is a nice, juicy orange!
