Today is Day 5 on South Beach phase 1, and it's starting to get hard. Like today at lunch, when I was dipping green peppers in tuna, I realized that my eating has really become more about sustenance and less about enjoyment. And while that's good in the long run, it means that the novelty of this plan is wearing off. But that's ok. I'm still sticking with it. I am determined to stick to phase 1 for 2 weeks. After that, I know I will be more than ready for phase 2! After 2 weeks of no sugar, I am dreaming about how good fruit will taste, and I never was much of a fruit eater. And that 40 calorie sugar-free fudge pop I have every evening after Nathan is in bed? Heavenly.
I will say that my cravings have gotten a lot less, and I haven't had a headache in 2 days. I do feel like I have more energy during the day too, which is good. I know this "detox" time has been beneficial for me, even without knowing how many pounds are gone at this point.
I am so wanting to weigh myself to see how these 5 days have affected my weight, but I won't. I don't have a scale at home (intentionally), and I use the doctor's scale at my church to weigh in once a week, on Sundays. Usually we have Wednesday night activities, but tonight it was cancelled due to weather, so I won't even be able to weigh tonight... no matter how hard I want to!
I feel good about how I've done so far. I know I still need to figure out an exercise plan, but for now I'm focusing on other things. And I feel ok about that!
Hang in there, chika! You can do this. Imagine, you're already more than 1/3 of the way through the 2 weeks. Almost halfway there!! Maybe it's time to look for alternative foods that you can eat on Phase 1. Shake it up a little bit and see if that helps.
